Services

inspiring your child to discover their strengths

how can I help you and your child?

From 1:1 support to a full diagnostic assessment, I can help your child reconnect with their love of learning and develop strategies that will support them now and in the future. No matter where you and your child are in their diagnosis journey, we always start with an initial session for your child to get to know me and to see if they respond well to my way of working.

After that, we will meet on Zoom to discuss my recommended teaching plan. At that point there is still no obligation to start with me – creating a solid connection with your child is my priority. At this point we will discuss and agree a way forward from my menu of services.

I have a range of options to suit different budgets so please get in touch to discuss your needs. My services include the following:

“My daughter was lucky enough to have Gemma's support in English and maths during her time at junior school. Together, they would steadily go over topics covered in class, checking that everything had been understood. She benefitted hugely from Gemma's ideas to aid comprehension, strategies to help with maths problems and games to make learning fun. Gemma's caring approach and gentle encouragement increased my daughter's confidence no end and she has started senior school with a solid foundation in both subjects”

PARENT FEEDBACK

getting to know your child

Once we begin working together, my first lesson is always dedicated to getting to know your child – this will normally involve a game to uncover their interests, passions and strengths. My teaching will always be centered around the child’s interests – for example, if art is a favourite subject, I will use drawing and creating as much as possible in our lessons. I have one child who always likes to include her Lego pieces in the lesson – so they help us with maths and problem-solving.

Children normally warm to me because of my own experience with dyslexia. I will explain the difficulties I had at school and how I overcame them by learning about my own way of working. I am the first to tell them if I can’t remember something myself or if I need to look up a spelling! We are on the same level, there is no hierarchy.

We will have regular check-ins throughout the time I work with your child, to provide you with updates on what I’ve observed of your child and their strengths, and also to update you on their progress.
